PRESENTATION OF THE BABIES

1. Levi Patrick Colvin (8/3/10)

The word Levi means to attach or escort. In the book of Genesis, Leah’s third son was named Levi, because she believed this baby would help her husband Jacob love her more, or be attached to her. It did not work.

God did bless Levi and he became the head of the priestly tribe of Isael, and he was the great grandfather of Moses and Aaron.

In the New Testament, the disciple Matthew was also known by his Hebrew name Levi. He was a tax collector who left behind his profitable business in order to follow Jesus Christ.

Levi’s middle name is Patrick, a name of Latin origins that means nobility, like a patron. Perhaps the most famous of all Patrick’s is Saint Patrick, who was a great missionary who brought the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Ireland in the early fifth century AD.

So today, our prayer is that Levi Patrick Colvin would eventually come to understand all that his names mean. His parents dedicate him to the Lord today, but we hope in the years to come, as God leads, Levi will personally, and willingly dedicate himself to the Lord’s service. Let’s pray that Levi will grow to be like a priest, and like St. Patrick, one who tells others about the great and mighty works of the Lord.

2. Addyson Reese DiBenedetto (5/8/10)

The name Addyson means “son of Adam.” Now, I know what you are thinking. You are thinking that doesn’t work since Addyson is a girl. Well, all you have to do is take out the i and add a y and now it changes the meaning to “daughter of Adam.” That works much better!

But think for a moment about what it means that Addyson is a daughter of Adam. We know who Addyson’s dad is, and its not Adam. Right? It is Jeremy. So the idea that she is a daughter of Adam must have a deeper, spiritual meaning. It means that she is a part of the human race. Adam was the father of humanity, and all who come after him are sons and daughters of Adam. As such we have inherited his sin nature. The name Addyson is a perpetual reminder that we need a Savior. We need someone to rescue us from sin. We need Jesus. Whenever we call out Addyson’s name, it should constantly remind us to turn to Christ.

Addyson’s middle name is Reese. Shea loves Reese Peanut Butter cups, so that is where the name comes from. Not really, Reese is a welsh name that means “enthusiasm,” or “zealous.” Looking back, that would have been a good name for Riley!

So our prayer for Addyson Reese is that she would be enthusiastic about her relationship with the Lord. That she would grow up zealously pointing other people to the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. Asher Joseph DiBenedetto (5/8/10)

Ironically, Asher is also a son of Jacob, like Levi. So if we keep going, we could end up with 12 of our own tribes here at RMLBC.

According to the book of Genesis, Asher means happiness and joy. This name has been very appropriate for Jeremy and Shea. This child has brought them much joy already, and we pray he will bring them much more as he grows.

Asher’s middle name is Joseph, which is a special name indeed. The name originally meant, “May God add,” which is a wonderful prayer for us all. May God add to our shortcomings, to make us what He wants us to be. The name has also come to mean, “God delivers,” or “God saves.” Some of you might be surprised to know that the name Jesus is a hellanized version of the name Joseph. So the name Jesus and the name Joseph means the same thing, “God saves!”

In the book of Genesis, Joseph was a man of God who stood faithful in the face of persecution from his brothers and temptation from Potipher’s wife.

Let our prayer today be that Asher Joseph DiBenedetto would grow to be a man of God who stands strong on the Word of God, and who brings much joy and happiness to his parents.

4. Aidan Thomas Gamble (3/23/10)

Aiden is an old Irish / Scottish name that essentially means little fire. Now, so far Aiden has been quite the little fire! The name reminds us of the biblical truth of Hebrews 12:29, that our God is a “consumming fire.”

Way back in the 7th C. AD., there was a famous preacher named Aiden, who was known for walking from house to house, and village to village, in England, sharing the truth of Christianity politely to the people he met.

Aidan’s middle name is Thomas. The most famous Thomas is, of course, the disciple of Jesus Christ who has the unfortunate stereotype of “doubting Thomas.” This is truly unfortunate, because in the Scriptures, Thomas was a man who wanted strong evidence before he was willing to believe something. He wasn’t a doubter so much as he was an investigator. Once he had seen the risen Jesus however, Thomas exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28).

So we dedicate Aiden Thomas Gamble to the Lord today, with the prayer that God would light the fire of Aiden’s soul, in order to be passionate about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We pray that in the years to come, Aiden would make the same declaration that Thomas made concerning Jesus, “My Lord and my God!”

5. Ansleigh Mischelle Morgan

The name Ansleigh is beautiful, but what does it mean? It means, get this, “hermitage field.” What is that? Actually, it is a place where hermits live. Or more precisely, a place where monks, who live in seclusion, would build their monastery.

Now, its possible, but unlikely that Ansleigh will end up living in a monastery one day, but I think we can draw a prayer from this name nonetheless. Our prayer, is that in moments of silence and seclusion, Ansleigh will be a woman who seeks after God. Our prayer is that she will pursue God, and not stop, until she is in a saving relationship with Him through Jesus Christ.

Ansleigh’s middle name is Mischelle. This girl’s name is derived from the popular boy’s name Michael, which means, “Who resembles God?” Of course we know of Michael the Archangel from the Bible, who resembled God in many ways. And we are also reminded that Ansleigh Mischelle is a baby girl, who is human. As a human being, the book of Genesis tells us that she is created in the image of God Himself.

Our prayer today for this little one, is that she would seek the face of Christ and resemble Him as a result.

6. Ella Grace Huguley (3/15/10)

It is amazing how God uses time to bring healing to our lives. About one year ago, our church was dedicating children to the Lord, and in that service, we honored the memory of Brian and Angela’s first child, Brianna. For His own purposes, unknown to us, God decided to take this child home early in her life.

The decision to try again loomed over Brian and Angela, and they decided to give it a try. The result is this absolutely georgous baby girl, Ella Grace. Considering the special circumstances that Brian and Angela have been through, I thought it appropriate to watch the video documenting Ella Grace’s entrance into this world.

The name Ella comes from the Hebrew word, El, which simply means God. The name has come to mean all, or complete. Or you might say, to be full. We pray that Ella would be a complete person because she is full of God’s Spirit, and led by His light.

Ella’s middle name is grace, which of course means unmerited favor. When we say the word grace, we are thinking of the most important aspect of God, as far as we are concerned. Without grace, we cannot connect to God in any way, shape or form.

So we dedicate Ella Grace Huguley to the Lord today. And we ask God’s favor on this little girl as she grows into a woman.
