There is a kind of withering that touches more than the hand. In Mark 3:1–19, we encounter not only a man with a shriveled hand, but crowds with shriveled motives, religious leaders with shriveled compassion, and disciples who do not yet understand the weight of what it means to be with Jesus. In this passage, the Lord of the Sabbath heals, withdraws, confronts, and calls. He reveals not merely His power, but His identity.
In this sermon, Pastor Jason Dollar invites us to consider what it means to bring the withered parts of our lives (our affections, our understanding, our priorities) into the presence of the Christ who restores. But he also warns against the ever-present danger of following Jesus only for what He provides, rather than for who He is.
